CONGRATULATIONS CATHY HARVEY – Bridport Carnival’s Local Hero 2026
This year the Bridport Carnival Committee decided to celebrate a Local person who was worthy of being called Bridport Local Hero, for the unpaid work that they undertake to the benefit of the town.
At a time when it is SO hard to find volunteers to help get anything done, it is a refreshing change to be able to celebrate someone who organises SO much, to the benefit and enjoyment of others… so THANK YOU, Cathy Harvey, for all your hard work with the Allington Hillbillies. Founded over 14 years ago, Cathy was a founder member of the Allington Hillbillies, who are a group of volunteers who carry out conservation work (on Allington Hill, Coopers Field and Coopers Wood,) to the benefit of local wildlife and the local community.
Cathy has secured various grants over the years to support the work, plus organised various activities / events to raise more funds and involve the local community to promote the group and its aims regarding nature and conservation – indeed, Cathy was the force behind this year’s very successful Country Fair – celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Bridport community uniting to buy Allington Hill. The event was a testament to the community spirit that the Allington Hillbillies engenders, and Cathy would like to thank the Hillbillies for all their dedication. Long may they continue to thrive.
