A bit of friendly rivalry is being encouraged this year, by the introduction of Awards that can be won for:
- Best Pub/Hotel,
- Best Sports/Dance ,
- Best School/Youth Organisation,
- Best Club (adult),
- as well as Best Overall, Best Costumes and most original entry.
There are many classes that can be entered – you do not have to enter a big float (but if you do, talk to Ben at Cains farm, as they are willing to lend out their curtain siders), there are classes different age groups, for walking entries, non – motorised entries, Mini floats, mobility scooters, or supporters who want to join in, but not be judged! Hopefully everyone catered for!
Enter the carnival… It’s free to enter!
The Torchlight Procession
The Torchlight Procession will be on Sunday 20th, (torches from 6.30, procession 9.00 pm, from Bucky Doo Square), ending up with band ‘The Skalatans’ on the beach and fireworks at West Bay.
- At 6.30 people start to arrive to ensure they get their torches (we sold out last year!) for this increasingly popular spectacular!
- At 9.00 pm, dusk, at Bucky Doo Square. The Mayors’ torch is lit. Then he lights those next to him, and so it follows on, cascading through the procession, looking magical. Practical as well, as it ensures that the torch will last all the way to west bay!
- The procession slowly snakes its way down to West Bay, where the torches are thrown onto the bonfire, and people celebrate with a drink and some (more) food!
- Popular local band, The Skalatans keep the mood going, until around 10.00pm when the fireworks display capture everyone’s attention, then back to dancing the night away.
